ALL OF LIFE IS VIBRATION
“Well you know I do this sound healing work and all of the sounds that I use are calibrated to the planets. And so my spiritual path, I think, really involves an entry into everything, including the Earth, but everything that’s beyond, too. There is this incredible truth—light, God, energy— that permeates the whole cosmos. When I use these tools I really feel like I actually tap into all that. The spirituality or the truth or whatever information runs through me as I’m working helps me understand something in a much greater context than just going to work and paying bills.
When I’m using sound and synchronizing with that nature, when I have a client on the table, I think there’s a dynamic energy that happens with the client, myself, and all of these cosmic forces, including earthly forces. When all of that comes together, it reveals information that I can’t really tap into in any other contexts. In the Hindu tradition there is something called samyama, and also samadhi, where three qualities of consciousness merge. And I really feel like when I do my work I actually do experience samadhi in varying degrees. Sometimes it’s extremely profound; sometimes it is kind of a fleeting experience. But I think there’s an innate archetypal quality that reveals itself through my work, and to me, that is part of what I would consider the energy of God to be when it expresses itself.”
Daniel’s Reflection
I met Sylvia Pelcz-Larsen in Boulder, Colorado where she is a vibrational healer who uses gongs and tuning forks to bring healing and health to her clients. She discovered this form of healing because of her own extreme back pain when she was attending a healing conference about acupuncture practice. I love how she describes the spiritual opening that happened for her the first time she received vibrational healing:
“I had this huge realization of what an incredible planet it is that we live on. That the planet is so amazing; it’s this jewel turning in the light of its sun. And we live on it and it has these trees around rivers and oceans and animals and people and all of these incredible things. And all of that in just a few moments all became clear to me really, really quickly.”
This sense of oneness with all that exists is so familiar to me from other interviews I’ve done for this book, and with famous accounts of enlightenment from individuals like Thomas Merton.
I had never been exposed to vibrational healing before meeting Sylvia. Here is some background from Val Silver’s Holistic MindBody Healing website:
“Vibrational energy healing, or harmonic healing, dates back to the ancient civilizations of the Lemurians, Aztecs, Egyptians and the Chinese. Vibrational medicine influences the body and energy field by changing its frequency. It acts as a catalyst to healing and transformation by transferring energy frequencies into the physical body. By using resonant vibration, your body (which is energy) can be restored. The goal of vibrational energy healing is to activate the body’s energies toward equilibrium and balance. This can be accomplished with the help of a vibrational remedy, light or sound frequencies, crystals, and hands on healing.”
This whole idea that we are vibration, and that all living and nonliving things are vibration, is very provocative. I found several quotes from the field of science as well as spirituality that assert this ‘all is vibration’ idea:
“If you wish to find the secrets of the universe, think of energy, frequency and vibration.”
~ Nikola Tesla
“Vibrations are the reality of the universe. Everything relates with those vibrations. God is a source of positive vibrations. Humans can be a positive and negative vibration. Everyone who performs any action is playing with these vibrations.”
~ Gargee Mishra
“Thought is the primary energy and vibration that emanated from God and is thus the creator of life, electrons, atoms, and all forms of energy.”
~ Paramahansa Yogananda
Given the advances in science, it seems very real to me that there will be increasing modes of healing using sound and vibration. But what is even more provocative to me is that God communicates and directs life through vibration; that God himself/ herself/itself is vibration. In my interview with Uncle Bob Randall, the Australian Aboriginal elder, he described the role of vibration in his people’s creation story or Tjukurpa:
“A long, long time ago, in the time before time, in the time before anything was, everything was in darkness. Everything was in deep sleep; there was nothing…until, from within this darkness…an idea awakened. This awakening caused a vibration. This vibration was as soft as one could imagine. And from this vibration came a low rumble. It was the first sound, like the gentlest mesmerizing drone of the didgeridoo. The soft sound and vibration spread out like a spider web in all directions and even though no one was aware of themselves or anyone else, each star and planet, as spiritual entities, could feel the vibration and hear its sound. This was because they too awakened.”
Vibration is grounding and uplifting at the same time. The idea that all of creation and that God, itself, is vibration is very powerful. It opens me to experience God in my body, and in all of creation, in a way I never understood before.
